Steam systems predate hot water heat. Boilers reach high enough temperatures in order to convert water steam that which will then rises through pipes to radiators. Steam moves very easily through a system of pipes to your radiators. It also has a high heat- holding capacity higher than hot water. Steam moves through the system’s pipes and then condenses after it heats the radiator and returns to the boiler as water.
