James B Vito December 14, 1925 – November 6, 2014

James B. Vito “Jimmy”, a man of integrity, good humor, excellent business sense; a man well-liked and respected both professionally and personally.  Mr. Vito began his career working for the Plumbing Company his father had founded in July 1934.  In the mid 50’s, after earning his Engineering degree from Catholic University, Mr. Vito  took over as President of James Vito, Inc.  Under his leadership the company experienced tremendous growth and success.  As the years went on, he took an active interest in real estate and in 1960 he established James Properties  a private commercial real estate investment partnership including apartment buildings, industrial assets and retail properties.

VitoMr. Vito was one to make and keep friends. He had many lasting friendships, some spanning more than 50 years.  These friends were in contact with Jimmy on a regular basis.  All of Jimmy’s friends have many fond memories of Jimmy and many noteworthy events.  If you were to ask any of them to tell you a story or two it would more likely be three or four.

Honesty and integrity were the foundation of James’s business ethic.  He was firm but fair and would lead with actions and not words.  His leadership style created our corporate identity and more importantly instilled values that have made many of our employees, both past and current, better people.

We are all privileged to be part of James Vito, Inc.  What started out in 1934 as a way to support a family has turned into a livelihood for so many others.  Mr. James B. Vito lives on through all of us in our desire to do things right in business and life.  We can learn many things from James’s example – honesty, hard work, integrity, and treating people right are just a few and if each of us desires to be a better person we only need to look at how Mr. Vito lived.  James B. Vito, we will miss you more than words can adequately express   You will live on forever as the result of your impact on each of us.
